Click here to read an article about The Martina Foundation in The New York Times, February 1997. The Martina Foundation began in 1996 as a sanctuary for animals deemed unadoptable by other rescue organizations. This designation was usually due to severity of abuse to the animals. At times it was also due to owners who suffered abuse and were thus incapable of caring for their animals. When an animal arrives here, all bonds of trust are broken, and the work to regain that trust starts the minute the animal sets foot on the farm. It is here that they stay for life, and simply enjoy living in the beautiful hills of Litchfield County, Connecticut. We have several immediate goals for the sanctuary: These goals will allow our small sanctuary to enlarge so that we can make room for more animals in need who would otherwise fall through cracks in the system. I thank you for your interest. Ginny Devlin, September 2008 |
